Now I know what you are thinking, this pick is kind of coming out of left field for me. And to be honest, before even getting into the album review, I want to make it clear that every album that I enjoy doesn't necessarily have to mean I think that it is a musical masterpiece. And I think that statement perfectly fits with this album, while I really enjoy it and listed to it a lot when it first came out, I can recognize that it isn't the most musically impressive piece. But that does not matter sometimes, sometimes there are other elements to me that make an album enjoyable. But enough preface, let's get right into the review.
I remember when this album, mainstream sellout, from Machine Gun Kelly first came out last spring, and I was super excited about it. I had listened to his previous album a lot before and had really enjoyed it as well. I really enjoyed MGK's shift musically, from producing Rap music and albums, to now producing more pop-punk projects. And while I do enjoy a few of his older rap songs, they really don't compare to his new music. I think the main reason that I fell in love with this album and listened to it A LOT was just for the mere fact that it was different. It wasn't something that I was used to hearing a lot of. I have always been super in to Hip Hop and Rap, but this music was very different from that, while still having similarities. And of course, there are a lot of older rock music that I really enjoyed, such as Green Day and Red Hot Chili Peppers. This album is the perfect mix for me between Rap and Rock. In addition to that, the runtime is perfect, I never felt like a song played for too long, or that there were too many tracks on the album at all. The instrumentals are very in your face, while also being great songs to listen to in the car, or just outside with friends. The lyrics are also a lot more relatable to me then other rap albums, and while some of them are a little more surface level, I think that that is where it succeeds at capturing the attention of a much larger audience. Without further explanation, here are a few of my favorite tracks from the album:
