For my last blog post for the semester, I wanted to do something to help everyone with their summer playlists coming up. For me, I usually start creating my summer playlist for the year some time in late February and early March, usually after we have our first mildly nice day. I know, that's a little crazy, but I love giving myself time to go through all of my old music, and add anything that really gives great summer vibes. Since it's my last post, I wanted to give less of an introduction, and just jump straight into the music! Here are a few songs that are great for your summer playlist coming up!
Artist: Louis The Child
Album: Here for Now (2020)
Genre: EDM
When I make my summer playlists, I like to add songs from all different kinds of genres, just anything that feels like a hot summer day outside. This is exactly what this song feels like to me. While I don't frequently listen to EDM a lot, Louis The Child is one of my favorite artists in that genre. A lot of his songs sound like big production, and have a great upbeat feeling to them. And while I am not an expert in this genre, I can still appreciate great music when I hear it. At the end of the day, if I hear a song and I like it, I will add it into my playlists. The vocals from Drew Love are also great on here as well, which adds to the instrumental. Overall, a great summer song to play in the car with your windows down.
Artist: Luke Combs
Album: This One's for You (2017)
Genre: Country
One of my all time top favorite country artists is Luke Combs, and this is one of him most iconic songs. You can't have a summer playlist without adding some country songs, and this is one of the best for the summer. It has a great upbeat sound, and all of the guitars, and other instruments are mixed well. I really love Luke's voice, as it has the perfect amount of smoothness as well as roughness. The subject of the song is great, about moving on from someone who was holding you back, and doing better now. This is a great song for summer, and if you haven't heard it before you should definitely check it out!
Artist: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Album: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (1976)
Genre: Punk-Rock
A summer playlist isn't complete without some classic rock, and this is one of my favorite. The song just has a great feel, and while I know I was not alive when it came out, there is just a great feeling of nostalgia I get from listening to it. Maybe that's because my parents used to listen to it a lot? Who knows, but the song is great and has a really upbeat tempo. The vocals from Petty are great, and when the drums speed up it makes your just want to drive faster in your car. And how could you go wrong playing a song called 'American Girl' at a 4th of July barbeque? You can't.
Artist: iann dior
Album: on to better things (2022)
Genre: Pop-Punk, Rap
I remember when this album came out last year, and there are definitely a few great tracks on here. Iann Dior has been one of my favorite artists for a while, and he has had a lot of really catchy songs that are the perfect mix between pop, punk-rock, and rap. This is definitely one of my favorite, and perfect for summer. The guitar melody that goes throughout the song really gives it an upbeat feel, and the singing and rapping from both Uzi and Iann are top notch. Overall a perfectly simple track for the summer.
Maddy! I loved this post! I really like the variety of styles of music you included in your recommendations. I am not the biggest fan of EDM music, but I gave "Free" a shot and it was not bad. My favorite of the list will remain "When It Rains It Pours" by Luke Combs. Great read!!
